It was a late-night crash involving San Antonio City Councilman Clayton Perry that he at first would not even acknowledge. But tireless investigative work from KSAT showed that Councilman Perry had not only wrecked another vehicle while driving in the wrong direction but had fled after consuming 14 alcoholic beverages in four hours at a nearby bar. After KSAT broke the story of the crash, Councilman Perry was arrested for fleeing from the scene, took a still ongoing leave of absence, and was booked a second time on a driving while intoxicated charge. It was a public unraveling of a political career, stemming from an incident that some in the city government had hoped to keep private.
