Our 4th annual fundraiser will again be held at the Headliners Club in Austin. The evening includes an elegant seated dinner and storytelling from the fairways by Verne Lundquist and his special guest golfer, broadcaster and author David Feherty. We will also be celebrating Verne's 40th anniversary calling the Master's tournament with some special surprises!
On Saturday, October 14th, Foundation supporters gathered at the Headliners Club in Austin to celebrate our 2023-24 scholarship recipients and Texas' best journalists. Record attendance and an extraordinary panel discussion featuring Uvalde Leader-News owner and publisher Craig Garnett, helped to make this our most successful Quinn luncheon to date.

Underwriters and VIP ticket holders have the added benefit of enjoying a private cocktail reception with Verne, Gary and other celebrity guests prior to the event.
On Saturday, October 29, the Headliners Foundation hosted the annual Mike Quinn Awards Luncheon to celebrate our 2022-23 scholarship recipients and professional journalism award winners. More than 100 Foundation friends, supporters, journalists and journalism educators gathered to honor these exceptional individuals for their outstanding work. The event began with a networking reception, and included recognition of the scholarship recipients in attendance, presentation of the Charles E. Green Awards and Showcase Awards for Enterprise and Innovation to Texas' best journalists, and an enlightening Keynote discussion between Foundation Board member Kathleen McElroy and former Texas Tribune Executive Editor and co-founder Ross Ramsey.

Burl Osborne, who passed away in 2012, was not only a legendary journalist, but a champion of diversity in the newsroom, freedom of the press, and a great mentor to young journalists. In that spirit, we are deeply grateful to his family for their generous contributions to the Headliners Foundation in his honor.
To commemorate the release of his biography, the Headliners Foundation is co-presenting an event with the Headliners Club on Friday, September 15th at 11:30 a.m. Former editor and vice president of the Austin American-Statesman, Rich Oppel, will interview the author of the biography, Jane Wolf, and books will be available for sale. Please contact the Headliners Club for reservations.
On Saturday, February 26th, the Headliners Foundation hosted the annual Mike Quinn Awards Luncheon to celebrate our 2021-22 scholarship recipients and professional journalism award winners. More than 100 Foundation friends, supporters, journalists and journalism educators gathered to honor these exceptional individuals for their outstanding work. The event began with a networking reception, and included recognition of the scholarship recipients in attendance, presentation of the Charles E. Green Awards and Showcase Awards for Enterprise and Innovation to Texas' best journalists, and an enlightening Keynote panel discussion with Rob Cartwright, news director at CBS Austin, Sewell Chan, editor in chief at the Texas Tribune, and Manny Garcia, executive editor of the Austin American-Statesman, moderated by the director of UT-Austin's School of Journalism and Foundation Board member Kathleen McElroy.
During the program, the Foundation announced two new scholarships to be awarded for the first time in the spring of 2022: The Ellen and Mark Morrison Scholarship and the George A. McElroy Scholarship. The addition of these two scholarships will allow the Foundation to award a record $86,000 to Texas college and university students interested in pursuing a career in journalism.

The 2019 Mike Quinn Awards Luncheon was held Saturday, September 28, 2019, at the Headliners Club. In addition to honoring our 2019-20 scholarship award winners and professional journalist awardees, the luncheon program featured a keynote presentation with former Headliners Foundation scholarship winners discussing their experience moving from the classroom to the newsroom.
On February 26th, the Foundation will honor legendary sports broadcaster Verne Lundquist with a memorable evening of stories from the sidelines.

Election ’14: The voters speak, what did they say?
R.B. Brenner, Director, UT School of Journalism at Austin Moody College and former editor at The Washington Post, was the featured speaker at the awards luncheon.
Ann Compton, one of Washington’s most respected journalists, was featured at the Foundation’s Michele Kay Distinguished Speakers Series on Thurs., Feb. 27, 2014.
The annual luncheon of the Headliners Foundation honored this year’s winners of the prestigious Charles E. Green awards for excellence in journalism and introduced the Foundation’s scholarship recipients. Karen Tumulty gave the keynote and shared her views on the political upheaval in Washington, DC with the 60 people in attendance.
Headliners Foundation Chairman Mark Morrison once again welcomed a full house of guests to the Headliners Club for the February 7th, Michele Kay Distinguished Speakers Series featuring Don Gonyea interviewed by colleague and friend, Ken Herman. Gonyea and Herman discussed Gonyea’s early career as country music DJ in small-town Michigan before being transferred to news anchor at the local NPR affiliate, and later being elevated to the Washington bureau.

Headliners Foundation Chairman Gary Pickle welcomed a full house of guests to the Headliners Club for the October 16, 2012 panel discussion, the third in the Foundation’s Michele Kay Distinguished Speakers Series. After introducing Robert Schultz, Michele’s husband, Pickle turned the program over to Lindsey Garner, a former student of Michele’s at St. Edward’s University.
