Fort Worth Report is Live!

The day is finally here!

Dear Fort Worth Report friend,

The big day is here. Thank you for your part in turning our dream of a new essential local news source into a reality.

For our inaugural news staff, led by Managing Editor Thomas Martinez, it’s been a race to the starting line. They’ve been working furiously to report and write our initial special report on the May 1 local elections.

In our lead story today, reporter Jessica Priest examines why many see the mayor’s race as pivotal in deciding Fort Worth’s path for the next generation. As the city’s population booms, will the economic growth benefit all, or will it deepen the pockets of poverty? In a related story, Jessica examines outgoing Mayor Betsy Price’s legacy and political future – and what’s ahead for Fort Worth’s most controversial unfinished project of the past decade, Panther Island.

We hope you’ll take some time getting acquainted with our new website, fortworthreport.org, which emphasizes the topics you told us you care deeply about: local government, arts and culture, education and business. You also said you wanted a local news source that connects the community through meaningful news stories and useful information like a calendar of events.

Please keep coming back every day for more coverage. Later this week, reporters Neetish Basnet and Jacob Sanchez will have in-depth profiles of four leading candidates for mayor. Neetish and Jacob also are digging deep into the candidates’ campaign spending and looking at what can be done about Fort Worth’s abysmal voter turnout.

Today is just a start, of course. With your support, our nonprofit and nonpartisan news organization will be here the long haul, doing our best to inform, engage and empower the residents of Fort Worth and Tarrant County.

Good local journalism strengthens our communities. How well we do on this daily pursuit depends on you. Please let us know what you think of our news coverage and how we may better serve you. You may reach me at chris.cobler@fortworthreport.org and our managing editor at thomas.martinez@fortworthreport.org.

We look forward to the journey ahead with you.

Regards,
