Following the deadly condo collapse in Florida, I submitted records requests for inspections done on aging structures around San Antonio. Follow-up requests led to a series of inspections done two years prior on the Tower of the Americas that found serious, life-endangering safety hazards. None of the major problems had been fixed and the city claimed to not have money to complete all the repairs recommended. After our story city staff requested $10 million for repairs and increased the scope of the project. Voters will now decide in May whether to approve the additional money for repairs.
