Odessa Mass Shooting
KOSA CBS7
04/29/2020
A mobile mass shooter attacked West Texas on August 31, 2019. The shooting rampage started Saturday afternoon, ultimately crossing county lines and in and out of city limits, before coming to an end in a shootout with authorities two hours later. Less than an hour after the first shot was fired, CBS7 broke into programming for wall-to-wall coverage. We were the first station to break-in and the only station to provide more than six hours of uninterrupted coverage. We provided live team coverage with four reporters out in the field going live from the hospital, police headquarters, different scenes where the mobile mass shooter struck, and ultimately the shootout scene, where authorities killed the mass shooter. The CBS7 studio was evacuated during the search for the shooter, but still, we remained on air to keep viewers informed. At the height of our breaking news coverage, CBS7 clocked a 55 share.
