A year later, the echoes of serial bombings could still be heard in Austin. It was time to tell the untold stories of 19 days that had terrorized the city.

Austin American-Statesman investigative reporter Tony Plohetski spent three months interviewing Austin police and officials from the FBI and U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The resulting three-day series provided never-before-released details and the clearest picture yet of authorities’ hunt for the Austin serial bomber.

The series, “19 Days,” ran over three days in print and as an immersive presentation online. In addition, Plohetski recorded a three-part podcast. Those three episodes are embedded in the digital presentation. Also embedded are audio clips from interviews with key figures in the investigation.

You will note timestamps that change as you read the story, pulling the reader through the narrative and providing a sense of chronology.

It’s a fantastic read and a compelling online presentation.
