“Austin’s Emergency Response”
KXAN-TV
January 30, 2014
In the aftermath of a deadly flood in Austin, KXAN investigated the city’s emergency response and found severe shortages in 911 staffing and a plan to reduce costs that likely led to a breakdown in communication at the 911 center. Because of our report, police, fire and EMS directors were forced to re-examine their policies and procedures when handling a major disaster. It also led city leaders to consider more funding and staffing at the 911 center in the near future.
