A Growing Role for Investigative Journalism

Four of Texas’ top journalists—all Headliners Foundation award winners—shared their insights and best practices with students pursuing journalism and with fellow professionals at a September 15th panel sponsored by the Headliners Foundation. Panelists Debbie Hiott of the Austin American-Statesman, Terri Langford of the Houston Chronicle and Wayne Dolcefino of KTRK-Houston noted the increasing importance of exclusive investigative stories in an age when routine news has become a commodity. In the discussion moderated by Headliners Foundation Vice Chair Mark Morrison, the journalists also shared behind-the-scenes accounts of how they produce award-winning investigative projects.
