Double-Winners: KXAN's investigative team takes home the Showcase Silver Award and the Charles E. Green Award for Best Television Investigative Report
KXAN's investigative won the Foundation’s 2021 Showcase Silver Award with their series, "Racial Profiling: Failure to Report" which revealed that the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement failed to mandate and collect traffic stop data for racial profiling analysis by law enforcement agencies.
Their team also won the Charles E. Green Award with their story, “Mental Competency Consequences: The Hidden and Unreliable Data Texas Tracks...or Doesn't." This year’s judge for this category wrote that “this project exemplifies some of the best of what investigative reporters can do when given enough time and resources. The careful review of data and documents, the expert storytelling featuring the tales of real people and families affected by failures in the system, and the great writing and visualization are all elements of this project that every person involved can be proud of -- kudos to the team!”
The two are regulars in the Foundation’s winner’s circle. They sat down to discuss their recent exemplary reporting with Headliners Foundation’s Mark Morrison.
