Investigative Journalism Spotlights Special Education Deficiencies

“Comprehensive” is an apt, but somewhat inadequate adjective when used to describe the depth and breadth of the Houston Chronicle’s multi-part series, “Denied:  How Texas Keeps Tens of Thousands of Children Out of Special Education”, led by staff investigative reporter Brian Rosenthal. The Chronicle’s full commitment to this story, along with Rosenthal’s dogged investigational skills and great writing netted top honors in three Headliners Foundation/TAPME/TAPB award categories: Showcase, Star Investigative Report and Best Online Package.

Join Foundation Chair Mark Morrison and  Chronicle lead writer Brian Rosenthal in an interview that discusses how the story developed, where it led and what changes it brought about.
