Interactive Journalism Opens Up State Government

The Texas Tribune won a Silver Award in 2013’s inaugural Showcase Award for Innovation and Enterprise in Journalism for its brilliant and extensive interactive tool, called “Bidness as Usual”.  This online development lists hundreds of Texas legislators, members of Congress, State School Board members and  sitting judges,  furnishing anyone interested with a significant iteration of professions, sources of income, property holdings and potential conflicts of interest for each of these elected officials.  Mark Morrison interviews Texas Tribune Assistant Managing Editor Ayan Mittra about the concept behind this ambitious, intuitive and highly useful deployment of online data retrieval.
