Brian Rosenthal

The Houston Chronicle’s Brian Rosenthal is the Foundation’s top award winner for 2015, claiming both the Showcase Gold Award for Enterprise and Innovation in Journalism as well as the Charles E. Green Award for Reporter of the Year (newspaper). In his series, “How Texas Officials Use Your Money To Help Their Friends,” Rosenthal spent a year investigating nearly half a dozen ways in which weak Texas laws allow state officials to use hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to help their friends. The story sparked legislative reforms, policy changes, and at least one resignation. In this interview, the Foundation’s Mark Morrison interviews Brian about the development of his award-winning story.
