“Sharyland: Under the Microscope”

As part of our On Your Side segment, I researched a billing issue with an electric company which mainly services rural customers in our area. After a one-day-turn for our segment, I quickly realized there was more to the story. Our CBS 7 investigation caught the attention of lawmakers in Austin and also prompted an investigation by the Public Utility Commission. We hand-delivered skyrocketing bills on behalf of customers. The results of our investigation will come to a head in an upcoming summer Rate Case Hearing which could change the unfair rate allocation set in the commission’s last rate case. Because of our reporting, state officials were made aware of the impact on locals like the farmer who was looking to stop farming because of her electricity bills.
