Judge’s Comments:

Kate McGee is my pick for best reporter. While she seems to focus heavily on the immigration angle as it applies to education in the southern Texas, the stories are introduced and told well. The natural sound [of gnats] in the piece introducing Arlet was rich, especially during her journey to school. The web pieces complimented the stories well. I liked the timeline idea accompanied by photos to show listeners the long day Arlet had before she even arrived at school. Her sound bites were good also – allowed time to breathe. Great production, use of sound and web accompaniment to tell the story.
