Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Judge’s Comments:
This is a stark reminder of how local newspapers go about their work and why they are so important. The journalists at the Star-Telegram received word of a 2019 report showing that a ZIP code in their city had the lowest life expectancy in the state. The obvious question was why. The answers were not so obvious and quite layered, but Star-Telegram.com laid them out beautifully and expertly with a remarkable blend of street-level reporting, anecdotes, drone videography, digital mapping and data analysis. What a fantastic bit of public service journalism. Everyone should read this.
