Tony Pederson

Tony Pederson is professor emeritus in journalism at Southern Methodist University. He held The Belo Foundation Endowed Distinguished Chair in Journalism at SMU 2003-2022. Before his teaching career began, he was executive editor and senior vice president at the Houston Chronicle. He is a longtime activist for the First Amendment and has worked extensively on free press issues in Latin America. Among his honors is the James Madison Award given by the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas.
