Chuck Nash
After graduating from high school, Chuck Nash, a member of the Texas Air National Guard for six years, attended Angelo State and St. Edward’s universities, in Austin, where he began full-time employment selling used cars for his father at Capitol Chevrolet in 1972. Upon returning from Chevrolet’s School of Merchandising and Management, Chuck announced his desire to lead the family business, whereupon his father had other ideas and encouraged him to “go find his own!”. At 26 years of age, among the youngest automobile dealers in America, Chuck moved to San Marcos in 1976 after purchasing the Scrutchin-Cauthorn Motor Company, A third-generation automobile dealer, he continued operating at that location for 32 more years, until he opened his new facility on the Interstate in 2008.
Within the automobile industry, Chuck has received numerous awards; the World Class GM Customer Satisfaction award, Chevrolet Service Supremacy Award, Voted Best Dealer in Hays County, Business of the year by the Chamber of Commerce, and one of a select group of dealers from across the country, Chuck was honored to be a TIME magazine Dealer of the Year finalist. He was chosen to represent the Austin Automobile Dealers Association and the Texas Automobile Dealers Association in the national competition. He has served on numerous dealer councils and was appointed to serve on the Chevrolet VOLT National Dealer Council, helping to define the first electric car for General Motors
In addition to his business success, Nash has been deeply involved in local, regional, state and national civic causes and organizations, including President of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the San Marcos Airport Commission, Chairman of the San Marcos River Foundation, Board Member of the Greater San Marcos Partnership, Appointed twice by the Hays County Commissioners to serve on the Road Bond Election for road improvements and expansion., Sr. Warden of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Chairman of the Boy Scout Fundraiser in Hays County, Chairman Emeritus of the Seton Hays Hospital Development Foundation, Director of the First National Bank of San Marcos, Director of Southwest Texas Development Foundation, and a founding member of the Parks and Wildlife Foundation and recently inducted in the Perry R. Bass Hall of Fame.
A longtime backer of the campaigns of both George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, Chuck served on the Advisory Board of the National Park Service. He was appointed by Texas Governor Bill Clements to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission in 1987 and was Named Chairman in July, 1988. Serving on the Commission from 1987-1993, he considered this responsibility as “truly the pinnacle of my service to the great State of Texas”.
Not only has he served on governing boards at a state and national level, but he has been extremely involved in his local community. Chuck established two scholarship endowments at Texas State University and has supported numerous children’s education and social programs throughout the region. Through his company, Chuck encourages his employees to participate and volunteer in the many local events and non-profits for which he sponsors.
Chuck is married to Elizabeth, and has three daughters, Anne, Katherine, and Caroline
